The Blackwood Campaign Setting
The wilderness is the Blackwood beyond the village wall or cart path. It is at once majestic, unknown, and dangerous. The wild is unforgiving, and the land is scattered with the ruin of those that did not measure up. It is wide, dim, and quiet, the opposite of cities. It is primal, jealous, and mysterious, the bane of villages. It is home to mundane and magical creatures, but in recent years more trolls come from the east, more elves and their pagans crawl from their hidden homes, and the beasts of the wild have grown fearsome and bold.
Factions have scant cohesion in the Wild, and each encounter is likely to differ from the one before. Still, certain fundamentals may be seen.
